Erasmus Gala!

[Polish]

Cracow, the 7th of December 2013. On a first glance it would seem like any other day, the only difference being the falling snow. However, nothing could be more misleading! This is a very special evening, when the members of ESN UEK and International Programmes Office, Alumni, the honorary members, Erasmus students and fellow members from organizations such as AIESEC or ESN UJ, had a chance to celebrate the 10th year anniversary of ESN UEK section as well as the 15th year anniversary of Erasmus Programmes in Poland. In order to mark such an important day, the board members of ESN UEK, with the help of many current and former members of the section, decided to organize a magnificent gala, which honestly did not differ too much from an Oscar Ceremony 🙂

As expected from such a great event, brilliant memories, speeches and acknowledgements were made, everyone had a chance to enjoy some champagne, a very delicious cake and of course,  have unforgettable  fun till dawn. Hundreds of photos were done by our paparazzi, and probably there is no one who could get away before having a picture taken on the professional „Wall of Fame”!

 4

The official part mainly included giving our gratitude to all the members of ESN UEK, who throughout these 10 years worked in the section, their memories, motivational speeches and special wishes for the future. Acknowledgements, along with bouquets of flowers, were directed to the ladies of the International Programmes Office, which are always there to provide help and support. Also, thanks were given to all the former presidents of the sections and honorary members, without who our organization would not be able to become what it is today.

 10

We were able to watch some greetings from abroad, as few members and supporters of ESN UEK, who unfortunately could not attend the Gala, sent short films from around the world along with congratulations and best wishes.

The official part was highlighted by the great performance of Jagoda Kret, the finalist of The Voice of Poland! And then, after the show, it was time for the less official part, which was just having the best fun ever!

The Gala of ESN UEK was an excellent opportunity to renew old connections as well as make some new ones,  during the whole event it was impossible to observe any kind of division between former and new members, we all had fun together and shared many great memories and experiences.

However, it should be noted, that the celebration of the 10th anniversary of ESN UEK is not just about the Saturday Gala, but it also includes the Friday’s conference, which took place under the Honorary Patronage of His Magnificence Rector Prof. UEK.  Assoc. Eng. Andrew Chochoła. During the conference, there was a chance to gain information about various trips made by polish students and also to listen to the experiences made by foreign students at our university. Furthermore, during the conference, the results of a survey done by exchange students, who had taken part in the Erasmus Programme, were shown. This in turn allowed everyone to see the main problems which are most often encountered during this project.  A special guest of this event was Mr. Marek Sokolowski, The Chairman of the Board of the Association of ESN Poland, who during his presentation talked about the activities of the Association as well as the ongoing national and international projects.

Through the celebration of the 10th anniversary of  ESN UEK, all of us had a chance to see that in spite of how many different people are in the section, we still share the same goals and derive joy from what we do.

Erasmus Gala!

[English]

Kraków, 7 grudnia 2013, sobotni wieczór. Wydawać by się mogło, że dzień jak każdy inny a jedyną odmianą – padający śnieg. Jednak nic bardziej mylnego! To właśnie w ten wyjątkowy wieczór członkowie ESN UEK wraz pracownikami Działu Programów Zagranicznych, Alumnami, Członkami Honorowymi, Erasmusami oraz zaprzyjaźnionymi osobami m.in. z AIESEC czy ESN UJ świętowali jubileusz 10-lecia istnienia sekcji a zarazem 15-lecia programu Erasmus w Polsce. Aby uczcić to ważne wydarzenie Zarząd ESN UEK z pomocą wielu obecnych jak i byłych członków sekcji zorganizował wspaniałą Galę, niewiele odbiegającą od m.in. gali rozdania Oskarów 🙂

2

Jak na Galę przystało i na naszej nie zabrakło zarówno wspomnień, przemówień i podziękowań jak i szampana, przepysznego tortu i udanej zabawy do świtu. Paparazzi robili setki zdjęć, i chyba nikt nie umkną przed choćby jednym zdjęciem w profesjonalnym „Wall of fame”!

3 4

Część oficjalną uwieńczył wspaniały występ Jagody Kret, finalistki The Voice of Poland!

X years of ESN UEK!

[Polish]

Erasmus Student Network at Cracow University of Economics is just a local section in international association ESN AISBL which is one of the biggest students’ organisations in this university and the city of Kraków. In ESN UEK in a few so called ‘working groups’ we have around 100 active members who voluntarily give their free time to welcome, help, entertain and show polish culture and do many more for abroad students who came to Kraków on different exchange programmes to spend here a part of their studies. The organisation has its own strict structure- on the top there is a six-person Board and their work is controlled by the Audit Committee. The members are divided into junior, informal and formal members who work in ‘working groups’ such as Social, Culture, Sport, Party, Travel, PR and many more. A great help to presently working members are Alumni and the Honoured members but also many partners and friends in Kraków, Poland and abroad.

To tell the truth it is hard to describe by words what ESN UEK really is. The profile of this organisation was shaped through… well 10 years! In 2013 ESN UEK would celebrate its jubilee.

First of all ESN UEK is the bond between people, friendships and memories. Throughout 10 years of its existence, ESN UEK and its members organised incredible time for more than 2 000 exchange students who came to study at UEK. Tour de Kraków group helped to see the best of our city for a few hundred groups from different cities in Poland.

ESN changes the way you see the world. It helps you to open up your mind and your heart. This organisation gives the opportunity not only to meet people from different continents, race, from all over the world, but also provides the chance for actual and real relationship with them. Existing in such an international society comes with confrontation of believes, stereotypes, expectations and fears. However, meetings and spending time in real life often verifies all of that and the conclusion is that we are practically the same – we want to study, develop our talents, have fun, experience something that is, for now, unknown to us, talk with others and change under the influence of intellectual sensations.

To be an ESN member has nothing to do with corporation – like routine. It’s being a part of one big family of ERASMUS STUDENT NETWORK, which has around 14 000 members in the whole of Europe!

ESN is a real thing, a place which enables beautiful and meaningful slogans about international integration come true, which reaches also outside of Europe. Members of ESN UEK are young, full of energy and ideas and most of all have a need to give something back to the society and open their hearts for abroad guests, to show them how beautiful Poland is and how welcoming polish people are.

The good that we are creating here should go on not only for 100 years but till the end of world.. and one day longer. All the best ESN UEK!

Saved by the Zapiekanka!

It was one typical Saturday night in Krakow. I was wandering drunk in Rynek and was thinking which club I should go to! After little thinking I decided to head to the Kitch the legendary nightclub in Krakow which used to be open till the morning. I was walking towards the Kitch when suddenly felt enormous feeling in my stomach. My stomach was in a need of Zapiekanka. I usually liked to party every single day… during my Erasmus, but now … Zapiekanka was calling me even more powerfully than the legendary nightclub Kitch.

So UN normally I decided to go to the nearest Zapiekanka place to order one fine zappy. After I got Zapiekanka in my hand… I walked towards the Barbakan heading to my home which was in Rynek Kleparski. Walking with my zappy just next to Barbakan I heard running steps behind me.  One random guy was running towards me with angry face with intent to hurt me. He kicked me with high kick … but just before his kick was connecting me; I got the attack blocked by Zapiekanka.  Of course Zapiekanka was destroyed completely from the kick and from the impact of Zapiekanka guy fell down to the ground. Because guy was without doubt really drunk I managed to leave scene without getting hurt and guy left laying on the ground with destroyed Zapiekanka.

First I thought that Zapiekanka was definitely bad choice for the night and was thinking that this bread must be bringing me all the bad luck … I should have gone to the nightclub… but next morning I heard the news.

“Krakow’s sublime nightlife Kitch has been dealt a heavy blow recently as the stairs of a popular nightspot collapsed at 2.30 a.m. on Sunday, 6th November. At least 12 people are known to have been injured”

schody w kitschu

: D ok maybe little bit overly dramatized story (as I heard nobody got serious injuries in Kitch collapse) but at least its true story. I feel that Zapiekanka saved me from the collapse of the nightclub because I choose to go for Zapiekanka instead!

After this incident I believed that Zapiekanka is not just Polish bread topped with mushrooms and cheese… for me it was much more that day and it still is.

Was nice to share my story 🙂 and good memories to remember always.

It's just about people…

❤ Krakow ❤ city of unforgettable moments and indescribable feelings…Meeting a lot of people in this amazing city can’t make any person indifferent. My story has begun one year ago…
September, it’s warm, meeting people from different cultures, discovering beauties of the city and university, enjoying lectures (unbelievable but true , a lot of great trips…remembering this my heart is smiling

Time passed quickly, December knocked on the doors bringing snow and giving special charm to Krakow…crazy nights and parties (which I will not talk about because what happened in Krakow, stays in Krakow and…it’s already January, a special part of the year! Studying for exams, having flu, and still happy, I’m wonderying why…probably because of the pills I’ve been taking during few weeks

I couldn’t resist to this city, so I decided to continue my pretty good life in Krakow also during the summer semester.
I went through the four seasons in Krakow, and I can tell without any doubt, each of them has it’s own attractiveness.
It’s unbelievable how many things you can learn, and experiance you can live in 8 months. I don’t know if it is because of special city we were living, beautiful places we were visiting, magic spirit we were enjoying together or it’s just about people we were with. I think the last one deserves the biggest part in this happiness, and it doesn’t matter how long you know this people, the stamp they left on you will never fade.

…As the all good things come to an end, it’s the same with mine… After all, you realize these are unforgetable moments and indescribable feelings, which are recognized just from the people who have experienced the same. Sad, but happy in the same time because we all know we will come back to Krakow again
p.s. I’m glad that ESN made this opportunity for us, I had to write something about the time spent in Krakow, because I think it’s unrepeatable story in our lives !! :))))) Evgenyja, Anna, Janek, Alex, Damir, Filip, Thibaud, Slavka, Weronika & Milena kissy kissy !!!
